Rauw Alejandro

In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs at the time within the space of six months. The single Despacito which was a mix of reggaeton with pop music was not only a way to bring new interest to reggaeton but also brought more attention to Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in 2015. The Despacito album reached its peak chart-topping success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. It climbed to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish version in 2017 shortly after which the most well-known artists began collaborating together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to produce MIA (2018), while Madonna was a part of Medellin together with Maluma (2019). A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards popular music by 2020. However, a brand newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the evolution and development of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and various other genres was a typical practice.
